EIC at MWC Barcelona 2024: what to expect from the ITF 3.0 delegation
From 26 to 29 February 2024 the European Innovation Council will host a delegation of 15 EIC-funded companies at the EIC Pavilion during MWC Barcelona. The roster spans multiple technology domains including telecommunications, robotics, blockchain, security, the Internet of Things, 3D and quantum technologies. The appearance is positioned as both a showcase of European deep tech and as an opportunity for the selected companies to open commercial discussions with potential partners and investors from across the connectivity ecosystem.
The event and the EIC Pavilion logistics
MWC Barcelona is the global trade fair for the mobile communications and telecom industry. It convenes operators, vendors, regulators, investors and startups. The EIC Pavilion will be located in the 4YFN area, Hall 8.1, Booth 8.1A20. The EIC delegation is scheduled to attend a programme of onsite activities aimed at maximising visibility and business matching opportunities.

What participation can deliver and what it cannot
Trade fairs like MWC and 4YFN offer high visibility, the possibility to meet decision makers and a forum for validating value propositions under live market conditions. The EIC emphasises that ITF 3.0 combines onsite exposure with coaching, matchmaking and follow-up support. At the same time evaluation of impact requires caution. Public communications often highlight striking anecdotes such as a company doubling sales or closing many deals after a show. Those claims need careful attribution because successful commercial outcomes typically require sustained sales follow up, product readiness, regulatory clearance and appropriate pricing strategy.
How to follow up or contact the EIC for MWC participation
The EIC Community platform hosts the calls, event pages and stories for ITF 3.0 and T2M Venture Building. The EIC also provides a Community Helpdesk for programme questions. For enquiries related to the MWC participation the EIC recommended selecting the category labelled "EVENT - EIC ITF Programme - MWC 2024" when contacting the helpdesk. The T2M projects and ITF participants will be present in Hall 8.1 at the locations indicated by the EIC.
Context on the EIC and the EU innovation ecosystem
The European Innovation Council is the EU instrument for supporting breakthrough and deep tech ventures through a combination of grants, blended financing and business acceleration services. The EIC is implemented operationally by agencies such as the European Innovation Council and SMEs Executive Agency during the current programming period. Trade fair and venture building activities are part of the non-grant business acceleration portfolio intended to help EIC awardees move from lab prototypes to paying customers and scaled deployments.
Public support can improve market access and credibility. At the same time sustained commercial scaling usually depends on private investment, robust go to market teams and regulatory navigation. Watchlists for policymakers and programme managers include ensuring that public interventions do not encourage premature scaling or unsustainable spending on events instead of customer acquisition.
